4 benefits of simplifying your life

What are the benefits of simplifying your life? I hear you – you don’t want to throw away most of your belongings, you’re too busy to take on a new lifestyle, and you can’t even decide what to have for dinner let alone decide what goals you’ve got for the next 5 years.

And… breathe.

You don’t have to simplify everything all in one go – that would be the opposite of simple, after all. One step at a time – with my help – you’ll take back control of your life so it feels easier, happier and calmer.

So, what are the benefits of simplifying your life?

1. You’ve got more headspace to make decisions

The first benefit of simplifying your life is that you’ll have more brainpower/headspace to make decisions. We’ve all heard the story about Steve Jobs (read it on Forbes here) and Barack Obama wearing the same “uniform” day in day out – this helped them avoid decision fatigue. If you make tiny decisions over and over again, you’re wearing out your decision muscle.

For me, removing little decisions from my life looks like eating the same thing for lunch each day – I prepare food on a Monday, and then eat a portion each day. When the alarm goes off in the morning, I get up and put gym gear on straight away – this takes away the decision of whether to exercise. I used to spend all day deliberating whether to bother with the gym – what a waste of brain power! Taking away these small decisions leaves you with the ability to make larger decisions with more clarity.

2. It’s easier to say no to things that don’t work for you

The second of the benefits of simplifying your life is the ability to say “no”. I always say “knowledge is power”. When you know what your priorities are, both in life and in business, it’s easier to make decisions.

Imagine this – there’s a fantastic-looking pinterest course being launched and loads of your Instagram buddies are getting involved, it’s run by someone who you really admire, and to top it all off the course is free! You should definitely do the course, right?! No – unless your priority this month is to build up your pinterest audience, step away from the shiny sparkly online course.

If you don’t know what your priorities are, it’s easy to say yes to too much and become very busy very quickly. You feel like your dreams aren’t realistic because you’ll never have enough time to put your plans into action – but if you clarify what your true priorities in life are, you might just find that it’s easier to say no to all those things that are taking up your precious time.

It’s hard when you’re working for yourself – there’s not always someone else there to be a sounding board when there are decisions to be made. And the decisions are incessant! So when you know what your vision is (for your life and your business), it’s a lot easier to say no to things that don’t contribute to the life and business you’re trying to create.

3. Your inner chatterbox will take a break

That noisy (sometimes quite irritating) voice in your head will become quieter. You won’t second guess every decision. You’ll feel more confident that you’re heading in the right direction. Say goodbye to the constant waves of overwhelm and then boredom and then frustration. And imagine having the headspace to think and be creative and plan and dream!

4. You’ll have more time

Wouldn’t it be great if you could spend less time doing stuff you don’t want to do – stuff that’s keeping you busy but getting you nowhere. You’ll have more time to work towards creating the life you really want. But also more time for silly fun, belly laughs, tight hugs, and quiet cups of tea.

If all these sound like something you’re craving, please know that these things can and will change for you if you make some changes. I can help you work out where you can make small changes that have a big impact.
